Fleetwood Town International Football Academy (FTIFA) gives ambitious players a genuine route into the professional game, built inside a real English Football League club rather than a standalone academy. Programmes run flexibly, from a few weeks up to a full season, with a short-term trial pathway of three to six months designed to put players in the shop window: training and playing at Poolfoot Farm, Fleetwood Town FC's own headquarters, out on the pitch alongside the first-team environment and in front of the club's coaches and decision-makers.
The academy's ethos, develop the person and challenge the player, runs through everything it does: it is as much about maturity, character and settling into life away from home as it is about technical and tactical development. For a family placing a child from overseas, that blend of a genuine professional club setting, real pastoral care and a clear route to be seen by decision-makers at an exciting, fast-developing pro club is the real draw.
Coaching & Development
FTIFA's flagship offer is a full-time football development programme, with players training and playing across flexible blocks, from four weeks up to a complete season. At its heart is a short-term trial pathway of three to six months, giving players the chance to train and compete alongside Fleetwood Town's first team, with performances watched closely by the club's own coaches and decision-makers — a genuine shop window at an exciting, fast-developing professional football club. Training and home fixtures are staged on the FIFA-standard artificial pitches at Poolfoot Farm, the same complex used by Fleetwood Town FC's first team. Coaching is led by a qualified team holding UEFA A and B Licences with professional-club experience, supported by a dedicated strength and conditioning lead.

The coaches behind the programme
Ryan Vaughan
FTIFA's academy manager since it began seven years ago, Ryan is responsible for the operations and safeguarding of the programme and oversees FTIFA's international programmes globally through the Fleetwood Football Group. An A Licence coach with more than 12 years' experience coaching and scouting at Liverpool, Fleetwood Town, Preston North End and Blackpool, he has a strong track record of developing and supporting players throughout their journey.
Billy Batch
A former Fleetwood Town player with experience at Ipswich Town, Norwich City and Stevenage, Billy is a UEFA B Licence coach and a lead coach in the academy, helping players build what it takes to turn professional.
Michael Horsfall
Eleven years at Fleetwood Town and a UEFA B Licence coach, Michael manages the international programme and the day-to-day pathway for overseas players.
Michael O'Neill
A UEFA B Licence coach with coaching experience at Liverpool and Blackpool, Michael leads the on-pitch technical and tactical development.
Tom McCann
A graduate with a degree in Sports Coaching and Fitness, Tom is a UEFA-qualified coach and semi-professional footballer specialising in small-group training, and heads the academy's strength, conditioning and physical-development work.

Fleetwood Town has already written English football's definitive late-developer story. Jamie Vardy was still playing non-league football and working a factory job in his mid-twenties when Fleetwood Town signed him in 2011. One season and a Conference Premier top-scorer's return later, he had fired the club to its first-ever promotion to the Football League — and been sold to Leicester City for £1 million, at the time the most expensive non-league transfer in English football history. Within four years he was a Premier League champion, and he went on to become an England international. It is proof of what can happen when a player gets in front of the right decision-makers at the right club at the right moment — exactly the environment FTIFA's trial pathway is designed to put players in today.

Real pathways to Fleetwood Town
Junior Quitirna
Born in Guinea-Bissau and raised in London, Junior signed for Waterford in 2021 before joining Fleetwood Town after scoring 13 goals in 35 appearances.
Phoenix Patterson
After spells in the academies of Wycombe Wanderers, Tottenham Hotspur and Watford, Phoenix moved to Waterford FC before joining Fleetwood Town.
Ronan Coughlan
An Irish striker who came through the ranks at Limerick and Huddersfield Town before joining Fleetwood Town.
Investment
FTIFA runs its trial pathway in flexible blocks, so players can choose how long to give it a go. The 12 and 24 week options, roughly three and six months, are the ones we'd recommend: enough time to properly settle in, train alongside the first team and get seen by the club's decision-makers.
