Coaching & Development

Rossall's football programme is one of the most credentialled in British independent school football. Run in official partnership with Manchester City FC, Premier League, Champions League and World Club champions, training is delivered by Man City's own UEFA-qualified staff, bringing the same coaching philosophy used at the Etihad Campus to students on the Lancashire coast. Daily sessions, structured video analysis, competitive fixtures and professional pathway planning come as standard. Students have gone on to secure professional contracts and 100% scholarships to leading UK universities. Rossall has been invited into the Hudl League, a prestigious national competition a mark of how seriously this programme is regarded at national level.

Matt Grady

Director of Football

Matt brings over 20 years of coaching experience to Rossall, including time in professional scouting and coaching at Burnley FC. He oversees the elite football programme and manages the Manchester City FC partnership, ensuring every student receives a professional club standard of coaching, development planning, and competitive exposure.


Bailey Whalley

Head Coach — Manchester City FC Partnership

A UEFA B Licensed coach who joined Rossall directly from Manchester City FC, Bailey has coached internationally across the UAE, Australia, Japan, and USA. He delivers City's Premier League methodology to academy-aged players, combining elite technical and tactical coaching with the high standards expected of professional football development.


Tom Russell

Assistant Head Coach — Manchester City FC Partnership

Tom holds a specialist degree in Football Coaching & Talent Development, bringing an academic depth to his practical role within the Man City programme at Rossall. As Assistant Head Coach he focuses on individual player development, ensuring each student receives structured feedback and a clear technical progression pathway.


Rick Westwood

Goalkeeping Coach — Manchester City FC Partnership

A UEFA Goalkeeping qualified coach who also holds a Sport Therapy degree, Rick provides specialist goalkeeper development within the Manchester City programme. His dual expertise means Rossall's student goalkeepers benefit from both elite technical coaching and comprehensive physical support and injury prevention throughout the season.


Jamie Livesey

Coach — Manchester City FC Partnership

With over seven years embedded within Manchester City FC's coaching system, Jamie delivers City's philosophy of development, positioning, and game intelligence to Rossall's players. UEFA B Licensed and deeply schooled in one of world football's leading academies, he brings genuine elite football culture to every session.


Oliver Orr

Football Coach & Performance Analyst

Oliver combines on-field coaching with performance analysis duties, bringing a data-driven approach to player development at Rossall. His UEFA B licence underpins technically demanding sessions, while his work as Performance Analyst helps the coaching team track tactical progress and identify individual development priorities across the season.
