Coaching & Development

Millfield's football programme operates at EFL Championship Academy level with 12 UEFA A or B Licensed coaches — more than most professional clubs. Players train across 11 pitches including a Premier League Category Two equivalent standard First Team Pitch. The three-term, year-round programme (September to June) delivers far more coaching hours than the standard two-term school approach. Partnership clubs include Plymouth Argyle, Exeter City, Bristol City, Bristol Rovers, Forest Green Rovers, Swindon Town, Cheltenham Town, FC Stuttgart, West Ham United, Charlton Athletic, Fulham, Southampton, Cardiff City, and Swansea City. Scouts from Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle United, and Aston Villa attend fixtures and tournaments. Football is the school's largest sport with over 300 students participating; recent graduates have secured professional contracts at Premier League and Women's Super League clubs, and numerous players gain NCAA D1, D2, and D3 scholarships at US universities. Millfield's broader sporting excellence is equally impressive — at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, 12 Millfieldians competed, with swimmer James Guy winning two gold medals and a silver, continuing a tradition of Olympic representation stretching back to 1956.
